Trick or Treat on the BOOLevard Safety Tips

Walk Safely

  • Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks

  • Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross

  • Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them

  • Always walk on sidewalks or paths

Keep Costumes Creative and Safe

  • Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible choose light colors

  • Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct and child’s vision

  • Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers

  • When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trip and falls.

September 2018

To: All Glendale Blvd. Atwater Village Merchants

Halloween is coming upon us which of course means it is just about time for the Annual Fall Festival, or ‘Trick or Treat on the BOOlevard’ event! This year, your Atwater Village Chamber of Commerce has again agreed to sponsor this very popular event, and we are hoping to confirm your participation.

The date and time are Friday, October 26th, 2018 - between 4:30pm and 6:00pm. The Atwater Village Chamber will be providing some candy and other fun items to give to the hundreds (thousands?) of children who visit every year. We will be out decorating Glendale Blvd before the event, providing volunteer crossing guards and other fun holiday activities for that day.

WHAT WE NEED FROM GLENDALE BLVD MERCHANTS:

  • Confirm your participation and the contact person for your business
  • Confirm if you'll be providing either all or some of your own candy/toys to give away
  • If applicable, confirm if volunteers can deliver candy/toys to your business on Friday morning (10/26/2018)
  • Allow the display of posters at your business storefront with pedestrian visibility

We are very excited about this year's event, and your partnership is very much needed and appreciated. To confirm your participation or for event related questions, please contact Lara Pranger directly via email at laralov@yahoo.com

For more information about the Atwater Village Chamber of Commerce or general questions please contact Luis Lopez at luis@lopezautomotive.com or (323) 379-2413

Thank you,

Lara Pranger

They're at it again - RecycLA/Universal Waste Systems

20171004_155415-01.jpeg

RecycLA/Universal Waste Systems (UWS) is at it again, this time with predatory fines.

The Chamber has received reports that Atwater Village small businesses have been targeted by UWS with so-called "compliance" inspections, reportedly to asses if recyclables and solid waste is being properly separated. Recently, a UWS representative has been making surprise inspections in and around Atwater Village and issued or threaten to issue fines for minor or non-existing infractions. In general, fines can range from $25 to $100 per occurrence and are in addition to the monthly service fees.

Some small business owners believe these "compliance" inspections are an effort to generate new revenue thru predatory fines.

Have you been inspected? Share your experience with us and contact City Hall to let them know of these predatory fine scheme.
