RecycLA/Universal Waste Systems (UWS) is at it again, this time with predatory fines.
The Chamber has received reports that Atwater Village small businesses have been targeted by UWS with so-called "compliance" inspections, reportedly to asses if recyclables and solid waste is being properly separated. Recently, a UWS representative has been making surprise inspections in and around Atwater Village and issued or threaten to issue fines for minor or non-existing infractions. In general, fines can range from $25 to $100 per occurrence and are in addition to the monthly service fees.
Some small business owners believe these "compliance" inspections are an effort to generate new revenue thru predatory fines.
Have you been inspected? Share your experience with us and contact City Hall to let them know of these predatory fine scheme.
