City of Glendale Councilmember Laura Friedman and Villager of the Year Karen Barnett
Local resident and community volunteer, Karen Barnett, is this year’s Villager of the Year for her tireless work and dedication to promote and preserve Atwater’s section of the Los Angeles River.
Karen is a long time resident, since 2002, and currently serves on the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council (AVNC) board and is the Chair of the AVNC River Committee. As someone who lives next to the river, she has worked with elected officials, government agencies, non-profits and others to inform the community and seek changes in projects or events that could negatively impact Atwater's quality of life. Karen's leadership has been instrumental in obtaining the National Park Service Grant; which is funding a study about the feasibility of a continuous path the length of Atwater's east-bank on the L.A. River.
Today Karen continues her work to inform the community of upcoming projects, ordinances and changes that affect Atwater Village. She deeply believes that community involvement have a positive impact on the livability of our neighborhood.
The Atwater Village Chamber of Commerce applauds her work and dedication to Atwater Village, she is truly an inspiration and we wish her a continued success.
